Norethindrone for Night Sweats?

I have adenomyosis that was treated with my first lupron injection on March 1, 2010 and my pain is virtually gone. The only major side effect I've had are horrible night sweats. I had a follow up with the OB the other day and he prescribed Norethindrone 5mg every night. I started taking it on Sat and both Sat and Sun night I was up all night with more severe night sweats than I've experienced in the past.
Has anyone used this hormone for night sweats and did it eventually work??

Re: Norethindrone for Night Sweats?

I cannot imagine how Norethindrone would help with night sweats. The night sweats usually occur because of low estrogen levels (in your case, caused by the Lupron), and Norethindrone, because it would compete with estrogen for receptors, would lower your estrogen level even further, resulting in more severe sweats, not less.

Was the doctor who prescribed the Norethindrone aware that you'd already had the Lupron injection, and that you were having night sweats? Norethindrone has been used as add-back therapy to help preserve bone density in women on Lupron, but I don't think it's going to help with night sweats unless the add-back therapy also includes some estrogen.
