preop tomorrow sg thursday--update, preop done, now panic begins

Well, time is ticking and i kept myself so busy today that another day of the countdown is done. When and bought large underwear today (read a lot about the post op bloat) and as I held out these larger sizes my daughter and I started to laugh...I mean ...how could that not be funny!!! I feel like I am 80...Got my gas x, my granny undies, colace, MOM and figs (they are more effective than prunes) and a few other delightful items that made my hair turn blue just by buying them...Planted my herb garden, cleaned the outside porch and on and on and on. Then of course I did 40 minutes on the treadmill. My daughters and i have discussed sg a lot and I am trying to hold up a good front. Trying to teach what I preach...that even though it's scary and your afraid..you do it anyway and life goes on. That's today...tomorrow..who knows??? Wish me luck...

Re: preop tomorrow sg thursday

Laughing is always good for the soul and so I am glad you got to over the granny underwear.

Hang in there. You are just about there.

Best wishes for a successful surgery and speedy recovery.

Re: preop tomorrow sg thursday

Hi.. I went through a UAE 4 years ago and guess what...yup you got it..it started growing again. My fibroid started at 11 cm back then and now it is 7cm but soooo symptomatic...Really looking forward to not having to deal with this anymore!!!This uterus had bled her last and she lives on borrowed time. I have 2 great kids and count myself very lucky for that. We do what we have to and move on...even when we are freaking out. Thanks

Re: preop tomorrow sg thursday

Go Risa Go!! I am thinking of you, pulling for you, and looking forward to hearing from you post op!

You're so right, it was pretty funny buying supplies. I felt like I traded aisles in the pharmacy....no more tampons but hang on a minute.....Gax-X and stool softener?? Is this for real???

Glad you're seeing the humour, keep it up, and keep on sailing forward!

Risa -

Glad to see you are keeping your sense of humor, definitely helps with the nerves.

It is amazing the things you buy and the things you talk about related to this surgery.

as you countdown the last few days before surgery.

Re: preop tomorrow sg thursday

Life goes on and it gets better. Seven weeks after my surgery and I am sooo glad I did this. Passing my second missed period and I don't miss it a bit. Trying to get used to not having to stop and think and plan for a tidal wave anymore and not missing the pain and pressure and 18 week pregnant belly. It's going to be a great summer and not packing any feminine products for vacation (first time since I was 12). Good Luck - you will do great.

Re: preop tomorrow sg thursday

Good Luck Risa! you will do awesome. I am sooo jealous. I have two more months to go. I would like to go sooner but I already had vacation time off. Trust me after my bloating episode on Friday I was ready to do it this week!!! Hope the time goes by fast for me. I will have two more periods and then POOF! begone!!! yay! Granny Pannies, that is hillarious!! My daughter who is 10 would do the same thing I am sure! Not looking forward to the swelling, please be sure to post, so we know how it went.

Have a wonderful day!

Re:peop over and let the panic begin

Well, I definitely picked the right surgeon...Now I get to look forward to bowel prep...will have to take 1/2 day off WED just to be near a toilet!!! A nurse at the sg center I will be at and she left a message on my phone that she has made a few phone calls to help get the best team together...I know how lucky I am but the tears started after that phone call. Got a few valium for the next 2 days and am grateful for them. Took a half when I got home and slept for 3 hours...I guess the sleep loss is taking a toll. I have a rather intimate question of all of you...I find myself having the most anxiety surrounding being placed in lithotomy position (stirrups) and prepped for the sg with a team of people around as a panic evoking image. Being so exposed...I have anxiety every year with just PAP smears and this is truly horrifying. I told my sg that I wanted to be OUT before this...He said that the anesthesia folks would take care of that. I pity the poor anesthesiologist...I will probably grab him/her by the scrub top and demand versed and fentanyl upon arrival!!! Feeling so vulnerable and panicked by that thought alone. Surgery itself is scary but I have a lot of practice with that. This is freaking me out...Just a few more days and I know it will be over before I know it...how can I ease my mind? I am dissappointed in myself for letting these fears take a hold of me but can't seem to shake them. HELP!!!

Re: preop done let the panic beign!!! Help

Hey Risa! I wish I had some magic words but I know I don't. I actually felt really comfortable in the OR, because I could tell the team was trying so hard for me. It was busy, admittedly....several people doing their different tasks. But we were all making silly jokes and kept it all as light as possible. And then all of a sudden I woke up in post op....hey, how'd that happen...??

That's pretty fantastic that you have a great team and you will undoubtedly be really well looked after. Stop thinking about position etc.....maybe this is a case of too much knowledge!

Can you get yourself a funny magazine or something for when you are sitting on the throne Wednesday afternoon? Too bad we couldn't all come up with a comic book ourselves... "Granny Panties and Bowel Prep".

Keep on hanging in there, staying focussed on how GREAT life is going to be, and doing your very best not to obsess about the details. Put all your energy into distracting yourself. You can do this and you WILL do this....GOOD FOR YOU!

I am actually a Cardiologist and had to allay fears before doing a cardiac cath...I will likely be better tomorrow....
