Big Tummy??

TAH/BSO - I am 5 weeks post op (tomorrow) and my abdomen sticks out like it is fat. Has anybody else had a problem with their tummies looking fat?

Re: Big Tummy??

Hi Ashley I am the same here.

The swelling is in the lower abdomen. However I am noticing some improvement, I have recovered my waistline!

Hope we can all wear jeans soon!

Re: Big Tummy??

I have the pouch hanging over as well. It was not there before at least not like it is now. It is driving me NUTS. I have lost 12 lbs but can not tell because of this. I have not even tried my jeans because I am lible to cry, I love my jeans. Hope this goes away SOON. Have you found anything that helps it go down?

Re: Big Tummy??

If there was a cure I would pay a million dollars for it just to fit into any of my pants!!! I did try and cry and drink.
I hope for all of us that it goes away soon...I can't wear the same 5 skirts and dresses to work forever!

Re: Big Tummy??

I can tell you there is hope. I am 2 months now, and I think my belly went down about 7 weeks or so. If I am not stop during the day, I will get a bit back at night, but nothing like it was the first month and a half. The biggest thing I found was taking it easy. Good luck.

Re: Big Tummy??

We here on the list call this the Swelly Belly and it sticks around for different periods of times for different ladies. It's aggravating that is for sure. Just wear elastic waist for a while and then retry your normal pants. Even a year later, my belly is "arranged" differently. Strange how your insides rearrange themselves I guess. But hey, we made it through, swelly bellies and all!

Re: Big Tummy??

It is called swell belly. It is inflammation from the stitches inside healing. I had it for about 5 months & then it was just gone. It was worse on days where I did more. I learned to like drawstring pants.

Re: Big Tummy??

UGH I have the swelly belly also! I am 5 weeks post op today and was hoping to be in my jeans soon! I really cant go back full duty to work until I can wear my jeans. I have to have 100% cottton jeans for work because I am a welder. If we have anything other then cotton it will just melt onto our skin if we catch fire. I am in our injured worker program for now but I am starting to feel fat and lazy. boo

Re: Big Tummy??

My belly is bigger than my boobs right now...for once. I feel like I am 6 months pregnant. It feels like I have no muscles there...just fat!

Not excited to get back to work...I wear jeans also.

Re: Big Tummy??

I have that annoying swelly belly too.....mind you I'm only 2 weeks post op. It is so bad that I feel like a hot air balloon! It pushes up all my organs into my lungs, making it difficult to breath! I'm a small-framed individual, so it is very noticable. After my 2007 abdominal surgery, it took almost half a year to get rid of that belly. I sure hope that it leaves quicker this time around, LOL! At least it is the summer and I can get away with wearing long skirts for a while.
