SEVERE hot flashes...help!!

I had my hysterectomy in 2000 and they left one ovary. In 2002 they removed the other ovary. I've had 20 surgeries prior to my hysterectomy for ovarian cysts (endometriosis). I just turned 38. I was on estrodial for about 2 years and went off due my Dr.. He won't refill my perscription until I get a mammogram, which is extremely expensive with out having insurance. I tried over the counter menopause pills (ie. GNC menopause formula) which works for a while and then stops. My hot flashes are continually getting worse. I am not being able to sleep and changing my shirt about 3 times during the night. It's getting so bad that I'm feeling really self conscious at work about prespiring and the smell. I was driving home and fogged up my car window from the heat coming off my body. I get nauseaus. Does anyone have any ideas? I feel like I'm too young to feel like this and don't know what to do!!!! Any suggestions???

Re: SEVERE hot flashes...help!!

Hi!

I'm sorry that you're feeling so miserable. Your body is telling you "I need estrogen!".

Perhaps your doctor can direct you to a clinic which will provide a no-cost or low-cost mammogram (based on income) or you could check with a county or city health department. Help is available--it's finding it that can be the tricky part.

Meanwhile, dress in layers, drink water, use a portable fan and avoid any foods or beverages that trigger hot flashes. Some women report getting relief using the Chillow. There are also anti-depressants which can reduce the number of hot flashes if you want to consider that option.

I hope you're able to get the mammogram so your doctor will prescribe estrogen!
