Who's the best for hormonal issues?
Am I better off dealing w/ an ob-gyn to help me w/ hormonal issues or an endocrinologist?
Having pain and severe, severe emotional issues following surgical menopause. Had TLH/BSO
Thanks so much!

Re: Who's the best for hormonal issues?
 Kari,
There really isn't one right answer to your question. It all depends on the experience the doctor has in the area of hormones. Personally, my gyn wasn't very knowledgeable. He was great when I was having my female issues, but when it came to hormones he wasn't so great. Just not his realm of expertise. That is not to say that you shouldn't ask your gyn. I have seen posts here from others whose gyns were very helpful when it came to hormones.
The emotional issues are not that uncommon at this point in your recovery. It can take the body some time to recover from surgery and use up its stored reserves of hormones. All this can cause hormone fluctuations which can cause symptoms of imbalance.

Hi (((Kari)))
With your history of endo, you might be interested in our Endometriosis Support forum, where you will find others with endo and will be able to share their HRT experiences with you. They will also be able to share which kinds of Dr's helped them more.
I hope you will be able to feel better soon.

Unfortunately, I live in an area with terrible doctors. I can't find anyone to help me. They all either can't, won't or just pass you around like the bread basket at Thanksgiving!

Re: Who's the best for hormonal issues?
Hi
If you have access to an endocrinologist, you could call and ask them if they would see you to manage your HRT since you have a history of endo. Some will, some won't.
Another option, would be to locate a compounding pharmacy in your area. Call them and ask them for a list of Dr's who use them to prescrible HRT. They will know which Dr's are the most informed, and have the interest.
