No enema!! (just had pre-op)

I was so worried about the enema. While at my doctors office, he went over the procedure among a million other things... including telling me to get docusate and take 1 today, 2 tomorrow (surgery is Wednesday). I was so busy absorbing everything, I didn't ask him about an enema. He did NOT mention it. Then, he sent me to the surgery center to register. I had a 'consultation' with the nurse. She also went over everything, and didn't mention an enema. So, I asked her. She said not unless the doctor specifically told me to do one. So, surely he didn't forget...??? Should I just assume I don't have to do one? BTW, I'm having a TVH...

Re: No enema!! (just had pre-op)

I also am having a TVH w/ A & P repairs tomorrow, and I was instructed by my Dr to do it and to start with stool softeners. It could be possible the Dr forgot, but it varies from DR to Dr. For comfort sake, I think I would ask him. I have read from others about cramping etc. sure wouldn't want to add constipation too all of the rest to have to deal with! Good luck and best wishes!

Re: No enema!! (just had pre-op)

My doctor didn't want me to do one either. They want you to pass gas/poop after surgery so maybe that's why they don't want you to "clean out"? He put me on Milk of Mag the first night and I ate good (veggies, etc) after my surgery so I had no problems going. Drink lots of fruit juice/fruit and veggie juice/ plum juice too while you're on pain meds to keep things moving along and take some milk of mag.

Re: No enema!! (just had pre-op)

My surgeon said no bowel cleanse, but I should be on a clear diet the day before surgery. I was pretty relieved to hear it too! LOL

I want your Dr.'s! Oh well.... "Aunt Flo" didn't disappoint either, sure enough she appeared this afternoon! Oh well I had a great weekend w/o her appearance so I could go to the pool for the last time for awhile! LOL!

I didn't need one either! Yay! My pre op was this morning, my surgery is Wednesday too. The nurse told me I have to fast midnight the night before. And just to eat stuff with fiber today and tomorrow.
