Bi-est Cream or Lozenge - which is better?

new:Hello! I am 9 months post-op total hyst - weaned off estrodial patch back in JAN...but now having too many symptoms to ignore or tolerate. Does anyone know which is better for absorption of estriol and progesterone? Is cream better than lozenge? My DR prescribed lozenge from compounding pharm...but I like the convenience of creams better...any insights welcome...thanks!:

Re: Bi-est Cream or Lozenge - which is better?

Well, I haven't used lozenges, but in my opinion, they're pretty equivalent regarding how well they absorb - though there are differences depending on the individual - but the edge would have to go to creams because they afford a greater flexibility in terms of being able to adjust the dose to fine tune things. One caveat, though - I would not be talked into using a combined cream, I'd want the individual hormones in separate creams, otherwise you can't adjust one hormone at a time.

The only other concern that might tip the scale in the other direction, assuming you know exactly which dosages are right for you, is that lozenges would be more convenient. You wouldn't have to wait for it to absorb before dressing, nor would you have to worry about it rubbing off on your partner, child, pet, etc depending on where you apply it and when (and, yes, we have had members post about problems when their HRTs rubbed off on their cat ).

Just my though.

Re: Bi-est Cream or Lozenge - which is better?

Thanks for your feedback. Assuming absorption is the same, (although since I swallow 'juices' from some of the lozenge, can't understand how that would keep it out of my digestive tract). I actually prefer convenience of the lotion...as it can take up 20 minutes or more to 'melt down' the lozenge under my tongue, not to mention the icky flavor...hope to get saliva tests back soon to see if I need to tweak any dosages. But I do like your idea of keeping creams separate...will definitely request that idea if I switch back to creams. Happy day to you

I used the troches for awhile, they actually came in yummy flavors. I had mine made up in tutti frutti. They were quite yummy, I had to stop myself from taking an extra. In the end, I had some problems with absorptions and eventually settled in on the creams. I've been using the creams for about 10 years now. They have worked great for me.
