Which doctor do I see?

girls i am new to all of this...I had a TAH in feb. My surgeon in stlouis didn't put me on any hormones.. He said i would go to my local dr. for that. Is there a specialist that deals with hormones or who do you go to for these issues? Thanks for any suggestions

Re: Hormone testing results advice??

Bellevue pharmacy in St. Louis can give you a list of doctors you can consult in your area for bio identical hormones. Google their address, they're very responsive and helpful.

Re: Which doctor do I see?

Hi Ashyone The kind of doctor doesn't matter so much as that he/she is supportive and interested in helping you. My GYN prescribes my HRTs most of the time, but I could also get prescriptions for them from my Internist. For women with complicated situations hormonally speaking (for example, diabetes, thyroid issues, etc) I'd recommend an endocrinologist, but most of us don't need to see a specialist.

What is important is that the doctor has a basic understanding of hormones and hormone replacement. The best way to find one, imho, is to walk into a local compounding pharmacy and ask them which doctors in your area prescribe HRTs through them. That doesn't mean you have to use that pharmacy, or use compounded HRTs; it just tends to find doctors with a better than average understanding of what's needed.

If you don't know where there is a compounding pharmacy near you, you can go to www.iacprx.org and use their pharmacy locator to find one. You have to register to use the locator, but registration is free. That's how I found mine - and recently I went and checked it again and found that there are now several near me!

I hope this helps.

s,
-Linda
