Diagnosed with Colon Cancer

I had my hysterectomy 14 years ago. Last Fall I was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer which has spread to my liver.
Currently taking chemotherapy every 3 weeks, really feeling my depression lately. It's incurable, not sure how much time I have left, a couple years at the most I'm guessing.

Re: Diagnosed with Colon Cancer

oh sisterlb
Do you have any support? Friends ? Relatives? That is clearly a reason to feel depressed, but depression in itself is painful, could you talk to your doctor about this and perhaps get some medication to help you with what you are feeling.

Re: Diagnosed with Colon Cancer

There's a wonderful little book you might want to read. It's called "There's No Place Like Hope". It was written by a woman who was diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer when it spread to her bones. 10+ years later and she wrote the book.

I am sorry for all that you have to endure now. I wish you peace and many pain free, healthy years ahead. Good luck. Let us know how you are doing.

Re: Diagnosed with Colon Cancer

My father had colon cancer. He dealt with depression while undergoing chemo. He never told us what stage he had.
This year they removed a precancerous polyp from my colon.
So very sorry you are having to deal with this beast. Hope you will be able to prove the Drs. wrong. They cannot know for certain, only God knows the number of our days.

Re: Diagnosed with Colon Cancer

I was diagnosed with stage IIIc colon cancer in September 2009. I am now facing possible ovarian cancer (not colon cancer metastasis, new primary). Elizabeth Bayer was a colorectal cancer patient and wrote a wonderful book, It's Just a Word, Reclaiming Your Life Through Cancer- Beutifully. It has helped me to re-create my thinking about living with my cancer. There is also another forum I participate on (under a different screen name) . . . Cancer Forums. There is forum for colorectal cancers. You can find many of us there, thriving with colon cancer, many with advanced stage.

Re: Diagnosed with Colon Cancer

Hi there Loves Daisies
I was just reading your other posts and you certainly have had more than your share of cancer.
I wish you the best with your upcoming surgery and congrats at your new marriage.
Chemo does not seem to be where I would want to spend my honeymoon, but when life deals us these blows, you just do what you gotta do.

Re: Diagnosed with Colon Cancer

First let me express my sympathy with your new diagnosis and wish you strength as you face this challenge. When I had a difficult diagnosis one of my friends ( a Dr ) reminded me not to allow it to define my recovery. It is hard but your attitude can help you during these trying times. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Peace
