Question - Surgery Thurs. Surgical Menopause Surgery Thurs. Surgical Menopause

At my pre op yesterday, my doc and I decided it was best to go ahead and have my only ovary removed (right ovary and part of tube was removed in 2007 from probs with ovarian cysts and endometriosis). She told me I could expect hot flashes right away. She also said that she'd start me on a low dose of estrogen. I agreed to it but I'm wary of HRT. I definitely do not want to be on it long term. I'll be 33 yrs old next month. Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of why they decided to take or not take HRT? I know it's a decision between me and my doc but I would like to hear what y'all have to say. Thanks!

Re: Surgery Thurs. Surgical Menopause

I never even thought to ask my doctor about ert. A nurse came into my room after surgery and had me slip to my side, she than put a patch on my lower hip area and handed me a box of samples.

I didn't end up staying on the patch, eventually chose another route for ert, but I don't think I could've done it without it. I had hot flashes and symptoms even with ert, I can only imagine how hard they would've hit without it.

That was 11 years ago, I am still using hrt to this day. It did take me awhile to find the right mix, but after all I went thru there is no way that I would go without, unless there was a medical reason why I could no longer use it.

That's just me though. There are women who can't or choose not to use ert.
