on estrogen but estrogen levels continue to fall..anyone else have this problem

I'm having a horrible time finding a estrogen supplement that will work. I started on the vivelle dot .75 right after surgery. At 6 weeks my Dr. asked how I was doing and I said tired, etc so he ran an estradiol. It came back at 45 and he said to up the patch to 1.0...well 4 weeks later I felt even worse and so they checked the levels again and they dropped to 35. So the Dr said we need to try doing oral so he put me on 2mg of Estradiol once a day and to recheck in 4 weeks. Well just got my numbers and low and behold my levels are continuing to drop and they are now at 30. I am so irritated. I've tried transdemal patches, now oral and it's still dropping. I have horrible low back pain and cannot sleep at night. Anyone else going through this, anyone have any ideas ???

Re: on estrogen but estrogen levels continue to fall..anyone else have this problem

I can relate. In the beginning, I had to keep upping and splitting my dosage as it seemed that my body was not retaining estrogen for a long period of time.

I finally switched to a compounded hormone cream and started using it 3x per day. As I moved farther away from my surgery date and closer to balance, I was able to eventually drop the doseage back.

IMHO the early months post op can be a time of ups and downs. I tested my levels at six months post op and think it was a waste of time and money. I continued to tweak based on my symptoms and finally started to see light at the end of the tunnel. It did take me well over a year to finally find balance, but the light started flashing before than.

Had the same issue with v-dot. The only thing that's worked for me has been vaginal delivery of estrogen. Ask your dr about trying Femring - you can get a free sample from them (drug rep supplies samples to drs). The change and improvement in symptoms was within a few days! Some of us cannot absorb it transdermally. You could be hyperthyroid and that would mess things up too.

One quick question - are you using thyroid meds? Or at least had your thyroid levels checked? The thyroid meds will compete with estrogen for binding sites. One way to avoid this is by adding progesterone. When I used thyroid meds with estrogen alone, I had both low E and low T symptoms. When I added progesterone (oral), things improved fast.

Calypso-
Did you try oral estradiol too? I did have my thyroid checked and they said it was fine. I hope to try a vaginal method next as so far oral and transdermal haven't worked.

Re: on estrogen but estrogen levels continue to fall..anyone else have this problem

I only briefly (for a couple of days) tried the oral version - but sublingually (between cheek and gum). Didn't want to do the oral version normally.

Now I use the 0.5mg (dye free) oral estradiol tablets (tiny portion of tablet actually) but vaginally. After Femring worked so well (after trying V-dot for 5 months unsuccessfully with estrogen testing at below 32), I noticed Femring ran out for me early (possibly due to being on thyroid meds) so tried the oral version (generic) of estradiol (tiny pieces of tablet) but vaginally. It works great for me, but you really have to cut tablets up small. If you want more info, you can search for the thread "using estradiol tablet vaginally" and you'll see many posts from those of us who have used it. It does make your E levels rise FAST, and for some, they went too high. I also use prometrium oral capsules nightly.
