ovary out last week. How soon did you start HRTs?

Long story-short version...I had my last ovary out last week. The dr will not give out hormones until 2 week post op. He says that they promote blood clots so I had to wait. How long did you wait? When will I start meno symptoms? Will I make it to 2 week appt before I start with hot flashes?? It is hhot enough where I live. Thanks!!

Re: ovary out last week. How soon did you start HRTs?

Did not know about the blood clots....because my doctor put the HRT patch on my in the hospital, the day after my hysterectomy! I think you would be fine for two weeks though. Just watch for headaches, night sweats and hot flashes, that is what most of the posters mention. I am on an average dose of HRT that the doctor will adjust if necessary at my July appointment. I had some problems with nightsweats and read on this site about changing the patch to my back to get a higher dosage. That took away the nightsweats so I'm good to go! I had hot flashes for years before I ever had this surgery done so I wonder if I was already some kind of menopause.

Re: ovary out last week. How soon did you start HRTs?

Hi!

I started on hormone therapy the day after my surgery so I don't know how soon after surgery I would have started experiencing symptoms. From reading on the message boards of this site, I know that it varies from woman to woman. Some experience symptoms right away while others can go for weeks, months or longer without symptoms. Hopefully you will be okay for the two weeks your doctor wants you to wait.

Best wishes for your recovery!

Re: ovary out last week. How soon did you start HRTs?

Today is two weeks for me as well. Emergency surgery removed my last ovary. I started HRT the day after surgery, I'm still having hot flashes and night sweats but I'm hanging on to the hope that my doctor will get the dosage right. It never hurts to ask your doctor again or get a second opinion. Let me say that again because I think it is crucial to have a doctor that listens, it saved my life. Ask your doctor again and get a second opinion.

Re: ovary out last week. How soon did you start HRTs?

thank you for your replies!!! I sure hope that the hot flashes wait for the 2 week appt. He is a very strong opinion dr but be is the nicest of Drs and I beyond trust him. I traveled 2 1/2 he's to see him and he came highly recommended by a major HMO insurance and he was out of network. My appt is on Wed so lets pray for no flashes until after that. It is suppose to be 104 on Sunday. Arghhhh
thanks again!!!

I only made it 4 days before the hot flashes/sweaty not sleeping started. Had originally planned to wait. I called my dr when the symptoms started.
