why is taking estrogen only recommended for short term use?

I take 2 enjuvia 1.25mg tablets every am along with my synthroid. I still suffer night sweats ranging between awful and tolerable. 2 weeks post op, I'm sure it will get adjusted along the way. One thing that scares me.....why is taking estrogen only recommended for short term use? I'm only 32 and I have a long life ahead of me..I hope.

Re: why is taking estrogen only recommended for short term use?

I've been using hrt for 11 years now. My doctor says I can continue as long as I want to, that is; as long as no medical reason comes up where it would no longer be advisable for me to continue. I do have my annual exams, to include; mammogram and bloodwork. Thus far, everything is

Re: why is taking estrogen only recommended for short term use?

I'm wondering if its different schools of thought. Some ladies are on them for yrs, and that seems especially true for younger pre menopause age women. On the other hand my Drs all said HRT was for short term only due to risks, mainly clot risks. I'm hoping to stay on longer, clot free of course. I don't know why the discrepancy but it makes me nervous that a year would be as long as I'd be able to get relief. I'm not sure if ladies are on hormones for yrs because they have different situations, different Dr philosophies, or both. Its fine for me to say I'll take them for yrs but that requires a Dr willing to prescribe them. Guess I'll see what happens.

I have been told by one of my doctors that the risk is from stroke and blood clots ,but it goes up with the over 50 and 60 group I believe, so you have some years to get over the worst time for your symptoms.
