Exercise and hrt ???

I had my hyst about 8 years ago did the gambit with the whole hrt thing found out it wasnt right for me and I needed very, very little replacement like one or two estratest hs a month (have no ovaries).
So my question is I have been running so far 12 miles a week and have noticed that I am getting ALOT more hot flashes. Does exercise increase your need for hrt?

Re: Exercise and hrt ???

Hi mware!

From what I have read, women who are leaner do not produce as much estrogen (whether they have ovaries or not) as those who are overweight so that may explain why you are experiencing symptoms of a lack of estrogen...because of your running you have lost some pounds (good for you! -- unless you are underweight to begin with).

If I were you I would discuss your increase in hot flashes with your medical provider at your next check-up and see what he/she has to say.

Re: Exercise and hrt ???

Hi (((mware))) Actually, yes, exercising more increases your body's need for estrogen, so it's quite normal for you to see an increase in hot flashes if you increase your exercise level.

In fact, in general, women who are younger, thinner, exercising more and/or under more stress tend to need more estrogen than women who are older, heavier, not exercising and/or living a stress-free life (does that exist these days? ).
