omg...I am getting so fat!

I have been taking estra-noreth 1mg/0.5mg for seven weeks due to severe night sweats.(I have endometriosis, thus the estrogen/progesterone) I felt relief from the night sweats in about four days. I am not having any night sweats and few hot flashes and my mood seems more stable. However, I can't handle this weight gain. I have gained 14 pounds!!! It is all in my stomach and boobs. I bet I grew a whole cup size! My husband isn't complaining, but this belly makes me look pregnant and that can't be the look I was going for when I wanted this surgery. This is making me not want to leave the house I am getting so bummed over it! Thinking about calling the doctor but I don't think it will matter, I think any hrt will make me feel bloated and fat! Help! Anyone else feel this way? Any solutions?

It could be fluid retention you are having. You might ask your doctor, and he can try you on a diuretic.

I am in the same boat! I have gained a solid 15 lbs! I have tried a diretic, but I feel dehydrated when I take it. My weight is all in my boobs and belly too. I tried going off my estrogen, and was thrown into menopause.. im only28, and kept my ovaries, but they have yet to "wake up" My clothes and bras dont fit and it sucks I dont have any solutions, but you are not alone

No HRT here, but I've also blimped up 20+ pounds since my surgery 6wks ago. No clue what's going on.

Sadly it is much easier to gain weight after a hyster. I am 39 and on HRT. I gained 15 lbs in the first year after my surgery. I have lost 10 of it in the last 6 months. I was diagnosed with type 2 and made some changes to my diet. You have to be very careful of carbs and not getting exercise. I wish I had some magic advice but you just have to eat less and move more. And trust me, I am no health fitness nut. I just did what the doc told me. It is still very hard for me to lose weight around my middle. I think that tends to be a menopause thing. Pot belly or menopot. Not fun.

Harrison71, I only eat low fat, low carb foods. I usually have a protein shake in the am with strawberries and lowfat yogurt smoothie, an apple and almonds for a snack, turkey on whole wheat with a few pretzels for lunch and chicken breast and whole grain rice with a salad for dinner. Occasionally I will have a cup of ice cream or pop corn.
I do cardio four days a week and weight train three.
This is a total HORMONE problem...
by the way ladies...good news. I switched to a lower dose estrogen and lost four pounds in five days...WOO HOO!!!

It is a hormone problem to an extent. Not sayin that it ain't.When we gain weight around our middles we become more insulin resistant. As we age and/or go into surgical menopause it gets easier to gain and harder to lose even with HRT.The best way to fight it is to give up refined carbs, cereals, breads, rice and pasta. Get the majority of your carbs from natural sources like fruits and veggies. Get plenty of omega 3's and even some saturated fat. I eat plain yogurt for breakfast with berries, nuts and a tiny amount granola. For lunch I will eat a salad with a protein. I eat a lot of nuts and peanut butter. Dinner is usually meat and veggies or cottage cheese with fruit. I also make homemade soups in the winter. I will snack if I am hungry, cheese, fruit or veggies. Eggs are your best friend. Bread I usually have 2-3 times a week and pasta twice a month. Since I have type 2 I have to be real careful about refined carbs. Even the smallest amount will cause me to spike. Once a week I will have a sweet of some kind. Build some muscle too. It burns more fat and we loose it as we age. I work out 5-6 days a week, not because I want to but because I have to. For me, I don't want to go blind or lose a leg. I am not advocating Atkins either. Just eat closer to nature. You will reap the benefits.

I gained some on the hrt when I was on it,but what helped the most was to be on bio-identical patch and taking the lowest dose i could manage on. I could never take the synthetic estrogens or the progestins or progesterone, they bloated and made me gain weight.

I also noticed with time my metabolism has slowed down a lot so I do not burn the calories like I used to with cardio. I also have to eat less than I used to because of it. I eat more protein and it holds me longer from getting hungry.

I find it is all a hormonal thing as well and we have to figure out what works best for us individually.

Thanks there bio-identical hrt for people with endo that have to take estrogen and progesterone? I didn't think there was, but I hope I'm wrong.

Harrison, I thought you could tell from my last post that your preaching to the choir sister! I have been a fitness fanatic for over five best friend is a personal trainer, and as far as diet husband has been type 2 for thirteen years....I am aware of nutrition.
This is boobs have gone up two cup sizes!!! This has nothing to do with diet and exercise. That is why the reduction in estrogen has allowed me to lose four pounds in five days. Sorry, I know you are trying to help, but the help I need is talking about hormones and hrt, not diet and exercise.

There IS bio-identical or NHRT for endo patients. You can get Progesterone creams over the counter, and even Estrogens in a trans-dermal cream. That's what I'm looking into right now for myself. I had Endo, and my doctor said that whatever HRT I wanted, I could have, at least to try.
