Post-Op 5 weeks out, Happy!

I'm almost at the six-week mark and I just have to say that this has been a life changing experience for me and better, I feel awesome! Who knew I would feel so great after a TAH/BSO? No hot flashes, night sweats, my irritability is gone and I have the energy of a 20-something.

I chalk up my speedy recovery to two things: drinking a lot of water and walking. I made sure that I was hydrated and moving as much as I could at every stage in the process. There were (and are) days when I do too much, but I feel great. No more hot flashes, mood swings, night sweats, etc.

I guess the last five years were my time for menopause, because when the OB/GYN surgically removed everything, the pathologist discovered that not only did I have Stage IV endometriosis, but that I was also suffering from adenomyosis! That was the culprit to my cramping, bleeding and pelvic pain all these years. Now that everything is gone (my ovaries were pretty much left for dead and were atrophied) I can now move on with my life.

Yes, I have had some ups and downs since my May 18, 2010 surgery, and I still get tired by then end of the day and I have a tendency to do too much because I feel so great, but I just rest, get some sleep and I feel much better in the morning. Oh, and I'm still working on my swelly belly!

I have to go back to work next week and I feel like I'm ready, but I know I have to take it easy and work with accommodations, but I just keep getting better everyday.

I just want to say to others in the same situation to stay positive, meditate, eat healthfully and make sure you're drinking that water--oh and don't forget to move around the house or block. Everyone is an individual and the healing process is different for everyone, so take care of yourself in your own way. You will heal and things will get better. It's just a matter of time.

Re: Post-Op 5 weeks out, Happy!

txhealthyself,
So happy to hear things are going so well for you. Yes, I can also say the TAH/BSO was the best thing I have ever done for myself. I will be 4 weeks post-op on Tuesday, and I am still taking it slow and easy. I really have "extra time" to heal because I am a teacher and don't return to work until mid-August. So, I am taking advantage of the extra time and not pushing myself. Keep us posted on how you do when you return to work.

Re: Post-Op 5 weeks out, Happy!

I am soooo glad to hear how well you are doing! I had a TAH/BSO June 9th. Surgical wise, I feel great, and am healing well. My only set back was severe anxiety and panic attacks, they are getting better. I am on no HRT, but I have been put on anti anxiety meds. You have given me hope, THANKS!!!
