Postmenopausal, having TAH/BSO end of August

Hot flashes and night sweats are not new to me. Been postmenopausal for 1 1/2 years and starting getting them in perimenopause. Due to breast cancer history in family, doctor unwilling to chance giving me HRT and can't take the herbs due to other medications I am on. I have right now a fan at the end of my bed which I turn on when I feel the sweats or flashes coming but it does little good. I've tried the drinking cold water and keeping a cold wet washcloth next to the bed. Recently I've been experiencing what I can only describe as an all night sweaty feeling all over and don't understand what is causing it at all - anyone else have this? Any hints on controlling the flashes and sweats. Oh yeh - don't you just love turning the AC down to 50 when flashing and the you get the cold chills and run for the sweatshirt?!!!

Believe or not I think what you eat can contribute to hot flashes. I had hot flashes prior my surgery and still do if I eat certain spices. Chili powder, peppers and red wine always seemed to set them of for me.I am on Hrt and they are not so bad right now. Good luck in August.

Re: Postmenopausal, having TAH/BSO end of August

I've been post menopausal for 10 years. Never really had to deal with "hot flashes". The only thing I have noticed since the surgery is that I can no longer tolerate heat. Usually, if it's 65 degrees, I have on sweats, now it's a T-shirt & shorts!
My only "hot flash" issue had to do with what I eat. My vagueness nerve (in stomach) gets mad at vinegar & pepper.
