Estrogel

Hi there. I am 4 and half years post op and my gynae has now suggested I need to try some HRT in the form of Estrogel as I have a strong family history of clotting and feels I should avoid conventional methods. Does anyone have any experiences good/bad of this method of HRT that they would like to share with me...I have to admit I am feeling rather anxious I am also booked for a bone density scan, calcium and Vitamin D supplements as well as a visit to the uroligist and not forgetting prescribing personal lubricants! I went to my check up today feeling rather well and came out feeling like I am falling apart any advice would be most welcome. Thank You - pam Manchester United Kingdom

Re: Estrogel

It's my understanding that if someone has a risk for blood clots they should avoid estrogen altogether, no matter the method of delivery.

That said; I've used estrogen in a cream form for many years and have had much success with it. That doesn't necessarily mean that you will too, but as long as your doctor is aware of your clotting issues and is okay with you starting estrogen, using Estrogel is a place to start.

Re: Estrogel

Thank you Kim. My gynaecologist recommended I research the drug before I see my GP to prescribe it - I have an appointment Tuesday so I will discuss in more detail then. You have been most helpful thank you

Re: Estrogel

(((pmt39))) Have you been to a hematologist to find out the nature of your clotting problem? The reason I ask is that there was a recent study which found that women with Factor V Leiden (one clotting disorder) can safely use transdermal estrogen (patches and creams, for example), just not oral HRT (pills).

Perhaps you could print out the article and take it with you to discuss with your doctor?
