Any gastric bypass patients having or had TAH?

I am scheduled for TAH 8/6. Dr wanted me to go on the pill - I said at my age (41) and being a gb patient - no way. He then tried talking me in an ablation. I again said no I want the pain and bleeding to stop. I seem to have a healthy utrus but I have horrible periods with lots of cramping and super heavy bleeding. I am anemic and take iron suppliments and get monthly iron infusions. I want the iorn to stay in my body and not flow (gush) out each month! Dr finally got exasperated with me and said fine I will do whatever you want. So here I wait for my pre op apt (7/26) and my surgery (8/6).

I am concerned with weight gain and hormonal replacement. I think he is planning on leaving the overies in - but at some point they will quit working. Has anyone had gastric bypass and successfuly taken some sort of hormone replacement? After gastric bypass the plumbing is all changed and meds do not absorbe as they used to.

If you're thinking about HRT - they have the patch! You can avoid the gastric system all together with that.

Re: Any gastric bypass patients having or had TAH?

Hi,
I'm scheduled for my TAH on Monday, July 19th. I had Gastric Bypass three years ago. I also had an ablation two and half years ago. My fibroid has continued to grow and is causing discomfort.

I totally understand your question about weight gain. I also have that same apprehension. I'm planning on keeping my ovaries.

I hope that someone else comes on that may have had GB and can offer us some advise.

Good luck on your surgery!
