Which hormorne should I choose after my surgery and do I have a choice?

I am having a TVH/BSO/bladder repair in 8 days and am wondering now about my hormone treatments. My doctor said she was going to use premarin -- in a low dose. She said she didn't think I would have any trouble because I have tolerated the birth control pill and that is more estrogen than the premarin. I am 40 years old.
I wonder -- how will I know what to tell the doctor I want to try OR should I just go with this one and see????
Thanks for your support.

Of course you have a choice. You will find a list of the more common estrogens here www.hormonejungle.com/estrogen.php

Premarin is a synthetic estrogen, containing somewhere close to 27 different chemicals. Some women do fine on it.

Do some reading at www.hormonejungle.com You will find alot of information there about hormones, symptoms of imbalance, necessary supplements, etc. Read all the pull down menus.

Good luck on your upcoming surgery.

Thank you. I will indeed check out the website and become well informed before I take any hormones. Blessings to you -- thanks for your time and attention.

When you read the pull down Kim gave you, you will see
that Premarin is considered a conjugated estrogen.
Some sisters here have side effects from the Premarin.
Please read also on the bio-identical estrogens and
the bio-identical compounding estrogens. Then, you can
decide which course you want to further discuss with your
doctor.

Why so quick?

Maybe the answer escapes me but why do most seem so quick to jump on the hormone bandwagon? I'm 44 just had a full hyso last week, feel really good and no different except happy.
Granted in 6 months or a year if I have severe symptoms related to some deficency I will investigate.

Good question, but the way the doctor explained it was that it was good protection now for later -- for bones and heart and other organs even if you do feel good. I'm not saying there is a right or wrong answer just how the doc explained things so far.
Glad you are feeling well. I pray that continue.
Blessings,
Margie

Chick,
At 1 week post your body is probably still running on its stored reserves of hormones. Here is a good thread about why hrt is necessary post hyst https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/sho...?threadid=3281

I've been without, although for a very short period. I was so frustrated in the beginning trying to find my balance that one day I just ripped off my patch. Well, I was absolutely miserable! Talk about mood swings and hot flashes! You could set your watch by my hot flashes, they came about every 15 minutes. All day every day. I feel so much better with and am happy to say that I did finally find my balance.
