Dreading going back to work

HI Everyone,
I had my full abdominal hysterectomy on 6/25/10 and have been worried about returning to work since my doctor told me that "the Gyncological Journal advises only 6 weeks off work". My work has NO PROBLEM giving me 8 weeks (at least) but I need the doctor to approve it for my temporary disability.

I just don't understand. Here I am 4 weeks post op and fearing going back to work. I work in a prison, I have to go though 3 locked doors to even go to the bathroom! I work at a desk, but there are is alot of pressure in my job and what the expect me to do.

Here I am, I can't drive yet becasue I have an SUV and have issues getting into it. Breaking kills me! I am exhuasted if I go to the store for milk and I have to walk to the back of the store.

Another issue I am having is painful urination. He said that my bladder was stuck in the scar tissue (2 c-sections, hernia repair, gall bladder removed) and it has been bothereing me since the day I had surgery.

His advice is to take Aleve and Tylenol and I will get better. When I take the Aleve and Tylenol it still hurts some, but I tend to way overdo things.

Please! Help, I have no one to talk to that has ever been through this and MEN just don't get it!
Thanks

Re: Dreading going back to work

Hello Sassy-my nickname was sassy cassie when I was little~anyway~i know exactly how you are feeling~I am 50 and had my TAH on May 28 and even though it went really well it was the hardest thing I have ever been through.Everytime I would even try to walk, standup for more then a couple minutes, I would end up in alot of pain.So i stopped doing almost everything-and just let myself heal~and it took until now to really feel I could even be up and around.(that is 71/2 weeks)and I still only feel comfortable with a 15-20 minute walk, and sitiing down or movies the rest of the day.I dont know why the drs. say recovery should be eaiser? who are they kidding?Wow-before the last few days I would feel so much pain w/activity-and i am my right weight w/no other problems.I would somehow try to get some extra time off but my best advice to you would be-try to do as little as possible now and just let your body heal. I found when I did that I got better way faster. It was hard and boring but really paid off. Good Luck

Re: Dreading going back to work

Fight that tendency to way overdo things. You might consider tylenol and Aleve on a schedule when you first go back. Present your case to the Dr and ask him to sign papers for 8 wks. Tell him healing is not cookie cutter and you still have issues. Meanwhile don't overdo or you'll go back tired and sore already. And it does get better with time.
