Climara vs Tri-Est

It's been a while since I've posted. I have some hormone related questions and hope someone out there can help!
I had LAVH/BSO in January. After surgery I was placed on 0.1 mg Climara Patch. One week after surgery I started using Progesta progesterone cream (OTC). My Climara dosage (after MUCH adjusting) was 0.025 mg. I decided to try Tri-Est (7/2/1) and my NP placed me on Tri-Est 2.5 mg. I am still on 25 mg of Progesterone (compounded from the pharmacy).
I felt wonderful on the Climara patch - no sweats, no hot flashes, nothing! Now on Tri-Est I have had MAJOR headaches and hotflashes!!! I decreased the Tri-Est and am down to 1.25 mg split between morning and night - that is the dosage I take to keep from getting headaches BUT I have night sweats and My NP thinks I am very sensitive to the estrogens. I am wondering what a comparable dosage of Tri-Est is in comparison to Climara patch? Having night sweats and hot flashes makes me think that I'm not getting enough Tri-Est but I can't function when I have the terrible headaches! I know Estriol isn't as strong as Estradiol but I still think the percentage of Estradiol in my Tri-Est is more than what I got in my patch! I'm confused!

I've read every book known on the subject of NHRT and can't figure this out! My NP is very new to all this and is trying to help but I just thought maybe someone out there has experienced something like this or might know of something I could try!

Climara vs Tri-Est

What method of delivery are you using for the Tri-est? It could be that you are not getting the proper absorption and that for you the patch works better.

JMHO it sounds like you have given the tri-est a fair trial period and if you felt better on the patch I would go back to that. Or you could try a different method of delivery for the tri-est.

Climara vs Tri-Est

My feeling is that if you felt good on climara then go back to that along with the progesterone cream. Climara is bio-identical estradiol so it is the same as what your body was making before your hyst. How long were you on the patch before switching? and why did you switch if you felt good?

Climara vs Tri-Est

Hi Becky & Kim,
Thanks for your suggestions.

The reason I switched from Climara to Tri-Est is what I've read about the estrogens... estradiol, estriol and estrone. From what I understand, estradiol is the strongest of the estrogens and most carcinogenic; estriol is the weakest and less carcinogenic.
My Tri-Est is 80% estriol. My NP said if I felt good on Climara, I'd feel GREAT on Tri-Est.

I was on my patch from January until a month ago. The Tri-Est is a compounded cream.

I just got home from work and talked to someone there and she told me that too much estrogen can also cause hot flashes!
SO! Maybe that is it? The estradiol in my compounded Tri-Est would still be a lot more than I was used to in my Climara patch.
Goodness... no wonder they call it a jungle! I might cut down on my Tri-Est some more and see what happens.

Thanks for your help ~ I'll let you know what happens.
