PreOp Bowel Prep - Dulcolax vs Miralax
Hi. My doctor's office just prescribed a preop bowel prep using Miralax. I have incredible issues with swallowing liquids that taste bad. Call me a wuss, but I still have to take cough syrup in a shot glass with coke and a coke chaser. LOL
The Miralax prep requires me to drink 64oz of liquid mixed with the 238g of Miralax at 2pm the day before my surgery.
I found on the internet an alternative preop that uses 3 doses of Dulcolax (the pills) instead.
Has anyone done this or do you see any reason why I couldn't sub, since the whole purpose is to clean out the bowel?

Re: PreOp Bowel Prep - Dulcolax vs Miralax
Miralax actually will dissolve and is tasteless. People even drink it in cofFee or tea. (As opposed to mag citrate which has a bad taste by anyone's standards). I'd say stay with the Miralax. I don't honestly think it would be hard to take. Its less crampy than dulcolax, generally speaking, too. If you do change, check with your Dr to see if its OK first,, they tend to be picky about those preps.

You shouldn't substitute what your doctor instructed you to use. I encourage you to give your doctor a call and discuss it with him/her.
