Random Large Blood clots

I have a large submucosal fibroid (not sure the total size but 6cm is within the uterus) & at less one intramucosal fibroid, scheduled for TLH (possible TAH) September 8th. Currently taking Lupron to stop the bleeding and hopefully shrink the fibroids & iron to increase my hemoglobin.

I have constant cramping; most of the bleed has stopped but once awhile I will get very bad cramps then shortly after get hand size blood clot then smaller golf ball size clots for about half hours, then all bleeding stops, I loss more blood in 30 minutes then most people’s periods. It is not my period for it last less than an hour, my period are10 to 14 HEAVY days. It happens so randomly and fast I am afraid to leave the house, no pads or tampons can hold it. Have towels all over the house to sit on encase it happens; when it does I stay in the washroom. This has been happening for the last few months; before I started lupron was worst few times a week, now few times a month. Does this happen to anyone else and do you know why?

Ontario, Canada
TLH (possible TAH) scheduled Sept8/10 (at age 34)

Re: Random Large Blood clots

I am scheduled for a TAH on Aug 10th. I have had abnormal bleeding as you describe since January. It is now under control though (using progesterine 1 x day for 10 days for 6 months).

During these last several months, I had a vaginal sonogram, pelvic and abdominal ct scans, uterine biopsy and all the related blood work. In my case, what was causing my bleeding ended up being a 10cm ovarian tumor, endometrial hyperplasia and uterine fibroids. Thankfully all testing, including blood work, came ack negative for cancer.

I understand completely about the sudden gushes, huge clots, etc. I too would have to stay home. I was afraid to make even a quick trip to Walmart or the grocery store. It would happen when you least expect it without any warning. Like you, some of the times, I would start having mild uterine cramping... then WHAM. Thank goodness it never lasted more than 30 minutes to an hour when it happened. The remainder of the time, I spotted to light flow but it was never ending... for months!

All this made me a basket case. Although, I am NOT looking forward to this TAH... but I know I HAVE to do it to get a normal life back.

Re: Random Large Blood clots

hi, just had a total hysterectomy last wed. july 28th, i have had pain can not say it was pain less but not as bad as i had expected it to be. i am 54 and have been having very heavy periods for years. i also had fibroids. as the years have went by the blood loss has caused enemia and my blood count was starting to be efected. i could not plan to go anywhere never knew when i would start and then i would bleed for a month at a time. i am now one week and day past my surgery and i can not wait to live period free. they found my uterus had more fibroids then what showed and the uterus was also larger than what showed up on ultra sound. i think it is gonna be the best thing i have ever done for myself. they took everything so far have had a couple of sad days no hot flashes so taking just one day at a time. billy
