Hospital Stay

I don't know what I am in for yet, but my date is Aug. 30th. As of now I am scheduled for a laparoscopic hysterectomy with possible removal of the right ovary. If the doc does not like what he sees on my csection scar, I am looking at a possible abdominal.

How long were you in the hospital for either...recovery time? I am trying to figure out how long we are going to need help with the kids while the hubby is helping me at the hospital. I have seen the doc so many times in the last few months, we are not doing a pre-op. I know I can call them with questions...but you "sisters" are so helpful. thanks for all of your help.

Re: Hospital Stay

I had lavh and went in around 9am and was back home by 2 pm that same day. If you have abdominal they might keep you overnight so plan on that. I would see if you can have someone over to stay either way, then you and hubby won't be stressed if you do end up staying.

Re: Hospital Stay

Sorry this became a long post...
Mine was a LAVH-BSO...I was in the hospital just over 24 hrs!!! My children were 17 and up at time of my I spent the first few days home kinda by Grandma lives with us, but has health issues herself. I spent my days in the recliner with everything I might need beside me...I did get up and walk around in the house alot and fixed simple things for us to eat. My hubby was home with me after the first three days at home!!!!

My surgery was late in day...and they gave me so many unneeded pain shots that I had trouble waking up after hubby spent the night in the hospital!!! Finally around 10pm I woke up, walked and got rid of the cath. and got some crackers and juice...from then on walked several times in the night.

No problems after I got home...hardly knew I'd had surgery, best thing I've done for me and my health...such better life without those issues!!!

Hope this helps you some in your planning...don't know how old your children are so not sure how to advise you there...sending wishes for a smooth surgery and speedy recovery!!!! Remember to give yourself time to heal properly!!!!

Re: Hospital Stay

I had a TAH and spent 2 nights in the hospital. My husband stayed with me and took a week off work to help me at home, and I definitely needed it.

Re: Hospital Stay

I had a TAH started at 8:30 AM monday morning. Was in my room around 1:30 PM. GYN released me Thurs AM. Had to stay 1 extra day because was not passing gas so could not eat solid food and my BG (I have diabetes) was low. If I had been passing gas I would have been released on Wed.

Re: Hospital Stay

Hospital stays also vary depending on where you live. Stays are longer in Europe, Canada and Australia. I had a TAH and stayed in hospital for 5 days, only had a minor complication (UTI).

Wishing you a speedy recovery

Re: Hospital Stay

If you are able to line up help for say a week, then you won't need to worry about the what-ifs....if it turns out you get home quickly and do not need the help for that long, you can always release them from service
My surgery was planned as a lavh, but 2 days prior, at my pre-op appointment, my dr decided to tell me it would likely be an ab hyst. Ugh!

Re: Hospital Stay

thanks everyone. My husband is taking the first week off. Then my dad is coming in to help with the kids as well. Unfortunately the day we were able to schedule surgery my MIL is having to take off and won't be available the next day. She is usually a huge help and all of my kids adore her, but my BIL(who has two kids 4 and 2) starts chemo on mon so we have made my niece and nephew priority. So I will be by myself in the hospital if we are still there tuesday or wednesday. Im trying to minimize the time my MIL has to be with our kids.

Sara~my kiddos range from 9 months to 7 1/2. So the need for extra help is great!! Im kind of looking forward to my dad trying to handle everyone all day! I laugh just thinking about it. My mother is talking about coming out as well...which may or may not be a help.

Thank you for your help ladies.
