Surgery on the 13th - Crying & Hot Flashes, Normal after ovaries removed?

Don't know where to reply to so I will start here. I had my TAH with both ovaries removed on the 13 th.. bicameral out of recovery with a bikini cut hipbone to hipbone with both stitches and staples. I have to go have 31 staples removed Thursday. Now something I did not understand is why on the 14 th I was allowed to go home.. I was home before 2 pm on the 14 th. I was given the option to stay longer but as I did not want to look weak since this seemed the norm I went home. It is now the 16 th... I can say I am finally starting to feel better. Moving around a lot better. I would have liked the time spent in hospital resting though. One of these days I might learn how to speak up for myself and not care if people think I'm weak. My family(hubby not included) seems to think I'm fine doing all the mom and grandma chores again. I had 1 nurse who I thought was great to me when I went to my room. Here's a question though I seem to be having hot flashes and crying a lot is this normal this soon after ovaries being removed?

Sorry to say but yes it can happen immediately. Call your Dr, they should offer you HRT or an alternative. Do rest at home, stand your ground on not doing all the chores and esp the lifting part, you don't want to rip any internal stitches. You had major surgery. Sometimes family forgets that but you need to remember and not overdo. A call to your Dr about the hot flashes should help, and I hope you feel better soon.

Thank you, I have to have staples removed Thursday. I will ask her about it then. I hope she will give me something, I know pre op she said she doesn't start hormone replacement till the 6 week check up.. maybe she will let me be an exception.

I also had a TAH BSO on Aug. 2nd, but I was in the hospital for 4 days. I was supposed to go home on the 3rd day, but ran a fever and they kept me an extra day to be safe. Definitely...if you have to go back in for anything, ask to stay as long as they will let you. If you're like me, this gives you a much-needed break from household chores, the kiddos, and such. LOL

Get back in your jammies and fight the urge to "do everything yourself." That's my problem, and I can tell when I've overdone it. Let everyone wait on you for a while....you do it for them. My hubby and kids aren't doing too bad of a job keeping the house clean, although I can't help myself from going behind them to tidy up a bit more.

As for the hot flashes and crying.....YES! I started just a couple days after my surgery....actually before it too. I'm sure my hormones were totally out of whack which was causing it. I'm starting on HRT (patches) today, so hopefully they will help!
