Shopping venture too soon? (9 days post op)

I was just wondering if it would be a good idea to do some back to school clothes shopping this weekend? I am 9 days post op today. I would have to take a 45 min drive one way. I would be able to lay down on the drive down and back, but definately don't want to hurt my recovery. Any advice would be welcoming.

Re: Shopping venture too soon? (9 days post op)

I would not have even been able to think about doing that so soon. Everyone is different but I would not have wanted to take a chance on hurting anything. I think if you do go you will find tomorrow that you over did it. I could not have been in a car that long myself. Do not pick anything up. If you have to do that let someone else pick everything up & move it around. Best wishes.

For me there would have been no way I could have rode in a car for 45 min. and then do shopping. Even now at 2 months postop I don't think I could ride in a car for 45 minutes and do back to school shopping.

Re: Shopping venture too soon? (9 days post op)

I, too am on day 9 for SAH. I had my staples removed today and asked if I could start walking around my neighborhood now. The doc said absolutely not!. I think she is being a bit overly cautious, but I will try to take it easy for at least one more week. I feel fabulous and I don't want to ruin that with impatience. Err on the side of caution would be my advice, give yourself just a bit more time.

Re: Shopping venture too soon? (9 days post op)

I went on a small shopping trip at 12 days post TVH, and it was really hard work. I really didn't do much walking, but had to take a break on the way back to the car because i knew I wouldn't make it. I also started bleeding heavily that night.

I only had a very short drive each way, so I think you might be pushing it at just 9 days post op.

Re: Shopping venture too soon? (9 days post op)

I waited 14 day's after my LAVH to go out the first time. I went to lunch and then to the grocery store for about 20 minutes. I was flat worn out by the time I got home.

Of course, everyone is different do you may have better luck than I did.

Re: Shopping venture too soon? (9 days post op)

i made the mistake of doing easter shopping 4 days after my hyst... i drove around one of those carts and the store wasn't far from my house, but by the time i got home i was in bad shape... i stayed at home for another few weeks before venturing out... i didn't start taking 45 min trips until 7 weeks post op and made sure i had plenty of ibuprofen...

Re: Shopping venture too soon? (9 days post op)

I was three weeks post op when I attempted to shop for Christmas the year of my surgery. I could barely walk to the store let alone walk around without getting tired. I drove one of those shopping carts. I think I stayed in the store less than 45 minutes. When I got home it was a week before I went out again. This time I stayed in the car and sent my family in the store. Online shopping sounds good to me.
