Estring side effect

Anyone have anxiety or nervousness from estring? I am cancer survivor And that is only thing my Dr will let me use for vaginal dryness. If I can't tolerate it what else can I do for dryness?

Any suggestions would be very welcome.

Thank you!

Re: Estring side effect

Hi Ginger! to HysterSisters!

We're pleased to have you join us. This is a wonderful site for information and for support, too.

Have you had a hysterectomy? If so, please take a moment to add your surgery date to your profile using this link: Edit Profile. It would also be helpful to know if you have your ovaries or not--I didn't see that mentioned in your Member Survey.

Did your doctor say why Estring is the only vaginal estrogen you can use for vaginal dryness? There are other vaginal estrogens which are also bio-identical estradiol, the same estrogen that is in the Estring. The difference with Estrace cream or Vagifem (tiny estrogen tablets inserted with their own disposable applicator) is that you would be in control of the dosing frequency, whereas with Estring you're getting a slow release of the estrogen over a 90 day period of time.

I've never noticed any systemic symptoms from using vaginal estrogen products but there are some members who have reported symptoms. How long have you been using the Estring? If you haven't been using it long, try to hang in there and see if the symptoms lessen over time. If not, ask your doctor if one of the other prescription vaginal estrogens would be okay for your particular circumstances.

I hope this helps you!

Re: Estring side effect

I haven't had hysterectomy. We are talking about it because of severe endometriosis so I do have ovaries. I had breast cancer that was estrogen driven so the only estrogen I can use is estring or vagifem. I'm peri right now but do have a good bit of dryness.

Because of the cancer we are holding off as long as we can to hopefully avoid having the surgery since I can't take hormones. I am 52 and hopefully will be menopausal within a year so I can avoid the surgery. I haven't had a period for 8 months so keeping everything crossed I don't have one.

I really was surprised to have systemic side effects because I was told it remains local. I have had the ring in for a week so maybe if I wait it out it will get better.

Thanks April!
