8 wk post op TAH/BSO & feeling very depressed

I'm 54 and was pretty much menopausal before my surgery (no period for almost a yr) but now it's like I'm experiencing menopause on steroids.... just wanted to see if others are feeling this too. I'm 8wks out from TAH/BSO and still feeling tender physically which I can manage well enough, but its the emotional stuff that's hard to deal with. My Dr just started me on .625mg Premarin on Fri the 27th and now I'm wondering how long it will take to kick in and balance me out. Can anyone share their input and experience on this?

Hi Laura!

Surgical menopause sure can be challenging, can't it? I hope you notice a difference in how you feel when your hormone therapy has a chance to work. How soon that will be varies from woman to woman. Generally any hormone product should be tried for at least several weeks before considering a change in dose or switching to a different hormone therapy product.

Keep your doctor informed as to how you're feeling and let us know, too, okay?

Thank You April for the reply... I do expect that it's like BC pills in which it will take the equivalent of one monthly cycle to be fully effective, but was hoping that I'd see some relief with in a week or so... will keep connected here and let you know how I'm doing. Just knowing that someone on the site knows how I feel and can relate helps a bunch.. Praying through this and keeping praise songs playing as that helps too.
