Removing 2nd Ovary Worried Because Can't Tolerate Estrogen
I am very concerned about removing my last ovary tomorrow. I have had to do this due to a large endometrial cyst. I have tried to take estrogen in the past, only to find that it makes me feel absolutely insane. I am terrified that I will have horrible symptoms but that the remedy will be worse. I am almost 48 which is better than being young in this case, but how bad is this going to be if I can't take estrogen?

Re: Removing 2nd Ovary Worried Because Can't Tolerate Estrogen
Hope you can get some encouragement from my story...I am very close in age to you. I have had a TLH with both ovaries removed, and have never taken any hormones. The only medicine I take is nutritional supplements, including Calcium and Vitamin D. I have been doing fine so far.
I excercise regularly, especially with weights to maintain my bone density.
Additionally, my good friend had the same procedure one month later and is also doing fine. She likewise has never taken any hormones.

It really depends on the person----Effexor is used a lot for hot flashes. Herbals such as Estroven seem to help some ladies. My GYN recommends acupuncture. And some just aren't bothered by symptoms. I opted for HRT so far but that's not the only option. Hope its an easy recovery for you.

Re: Removing 2nd Ovary Worried Because Can't Tolerate Estrogen
Thanks - I guess it takes 1-2 weeks to know what symptoms I'll have . . . so we'll see. I have had all of the traditional menopause symptoms since I took out my first ovary so I'm just hoping they aren't any worse.

Re: Removing 2nd Ovary Worried Because Can't Tolerate Estrogen
I was never able to take Estrogen or Progesterone before my ovaries were removed because I was getting too much. Well, when they took mine out and I no longer have any Estrogen being produced, the Estrogen is my friend! I am on the Vivelle Dot and LOVIN it! No more Mrs Hateful and the headaches are gone! : ) Good luck!

My "brain fog" has improved on its own, over time, to pre-hysterectomy levels.

Did it take very long? I teach college courses and have to be interviewed for my books . . . and I can't put two words together!

Re: Removing 2nd Ovary Worried Because Can't Tolerate Estrogen
Mine didn't get better which is why about 6 wks post BSO I started the HRT----it was a big problem. You might want to start your herbs or whatever soon as it takes weeks to kick in---if you are opting for that. Some do get better but I didn't, I hope you will.
