Re: first words when you woke up

I don't remember much in the recovery room, but later my husband said that the nurse would come in and ask me how I was and I wouldn't open my eyes, but I would say." Get that stupid catheter out of me!" They would say, not for a couple hours, then I would turn and look at him and ask "did it go ok?". He said i would then go back to sleep and that I repeated that same routine at least 3 more times before he decided he should just go on home to get the kids in bed, bc I was definitely not with it!

Re: first words when you woke up

Too funny!!!! I heard the nurse in the recovery room talking about me and the woman next to me who were both OB/Gyn patients and how we were both going to room 427.

My first words were "No I am supposed to get a private room" I couldn't even open my eyes yet, but my ears were working good and I wanted my private room dang it!!!

They told me upon check in that I was getting a private room and was thrilled. Last time I was in the hospital I left with a staph infection and was convinced it came from the shared bathroom.

Re: first words when you woke up

Well I am still trying to process my first words becuase although I was amazingly calm and peaceful before my surgery I really did not expect these to be my first words. I do consider them deep and I thank God for the experience of these being my first words.
"Thank You Jesus" and secondly I said to my friend, '"Why is the 23rd Psalm joggin around in my mind?"
To me it was awesome coming out from being under and having those as my first thoughts!!!

Re: first words when you woke up

I remember being in the elevator going up to my room. The nurse said, How we doing? I said, Fine. She said, Well, that's much better. You had some crazy talk going on for a while there!

I was too afraid to ask what I had said, so I have no idea WHAT my first words were. I desperately hope it was polite/funny/embarrassing and not insulting/homicidal/humiliating.

Re: first words when you woke up

Mine were "they're flying around Ingles!" I think the nurses were talking about Ingles grocery store and I was having a dream about trying to catch the grocery carts that had wings and were flying around the store. The nurse started laughing. After that it was "help, I can't breathe" because the throat tube had made my throat so swollen. The nurses kept saying "you're breathing fine" but it felt like I couldn't get any air in.

The thing that freaks me out is that I had Versed (the sedative/memory loss drug) for an HOUR before my surgery (because it was delayed). There's no telling what I said during that time! LOL

I don't remember coming round clearly, but I do recall the blur of horrific pain that they couldn't ease with meds. They were pumping me full of morphine that I didn't want as it didn't help, but couldn't get the words out to make them stop morphine and try something else. It seemed ages that I was in agony while they tried to get me comfortable and apparently during this time I was very angry/crying/shouting and told the anaesthetist to "*!** off and find someone who can do your job properly". I have no recollection of that part - I was told about it by a male student nurse and to be honest I would rather not have known. Although it did give me a chance to apologise to the anaesthetist and explain I don't usually swear. Not happy memories for me :-(

Re: first words when you woke up

My first words where was she able to do it lap. Nurse said yes then I asked for my DH and some ice. The nurse kept saying ok but she kept showing me how to use the pain pump. I ignored her and said I just want ice.
