No HRT...Are these symptoms safe? What to do???

I had a complete robotic hysterectomy on May 24th. People have told me that they've made it ok without HRT. I haven't had any HRT since surgery and Hot Flashes don't bother me but lately, my left hand and arm have been going numb at night. My right arm does it a little, but not as bad as my left. Sometime I get a dull pain below my elbow and my hands, knees and feet have been swelling in the mornings and afternoons? I also am bloated all the time, especially after meals and I am gaining weight even though I am dieting.

Please send me your recommendations. I am not totally against HRT but I am afraid of it. The reason for my hysterectomy was elevated CA125 and fluid in my uterine lining. (All possible symptoms of cancer.) But none was found. And I have a few friends with breast cancer and it scares me..... I appreciate any suggestions. =)

Re: No HRT...Are these symptoms safe? What to do???

I think HRT is very good for hot flashes and sweats if it is affecting your quality of life. I do not know if it is for other symptoms that you may be having. I would ask the doctor about these symptoms you are having and see if he thinks HRT is right for you and your particular health history.

I don't see any problem with taking HRT for as long as you need it and your doctor says you can.

Re: No HRT...Are these symptoms safe? What to do???

Hi there. I had my surgery just over a year ago and am still not on HRT. That may be changing soon due to the emotional effects I'm experiencing.

But, as for the arm pain/numbness, if you are retaining fluid that may be the cause. Since you describe gaining weight and bloating, it's very possible you are still retaining fluid. I had that problem for probably 6 or 7 months after surgery. My digestion was off and my stomach would swell. My feet and hands did also.

I would definitely talk to your doctor next time you see him/her but, in the meantime, watch the salt and eat easily digestible foods.

I also found that I was drinking too much water and even though that is supposed to be good for us, it actually caused me to swell more.

I wish you all the best in your continued recovery!

Re: No HRT...Are these symptoms safe? What to do???

Thank y'all! I found what was called a hot flash cocktail on the Internet and am on it for the second nite and all of my symptoms seem to be a little less. So we'll see. It's just a combination of vitamin supplements like E, C, omega 3, magnesium, calcium, D and some others....
Am I reading that some people are still having trouble with infections and basic recovery issues??

Yes, you may read that some people are still having troubles here, but remember that all the other people that never have or had problems don't come here, and there are probably more that are doing just fine. I know several friends that have never had problems after a hyst.
