Re: Anyone out there skipped the HRT and doing fine without?
I had my TAH/BSO eleven years ago. Shortly after that I had a DVT and for that reason could not start HRT. For the first four or five years or so I was on Effexor to help alleviate hot flashes and night sweats. After weaning myself off Effexor I found that I still had hot flashes but not as bad as before.
That said, I have numerous problems. I have pain in my back and in my joints that is quite dibilitating. I have been in the hospital twice with atrial fibrillation. I'm not sure if I'd feel better if I were taking some form of HRT, but I tend to think my problems wouldn't be so bad if I were. If I had the choice, I would be taking hormones.
As far as the cost of HRT, Walgreen's and Target have a program where you can purchase generic brands for $4 a month. Ask your doctor about it.
