I was prescribed HRTafter endometiral cancer

I am 39 years old and 16 days post-op following radical robotic hysterectomy due to grade 3, stage 1b endometrial cancer. My oncologist said I was a perfect for HRT and put me on Estradot patches before I left hospita...

Re: I was prescribed HRTafter endometiral cancer

Hello!

I hope your recovery is going well.

Some doctors are perfectly fine with prescribing hormone therapy for women who had a hysterectomy with a diagnosis of endometrial cancer. I hope if you decide to take it that you will do well on it. It really does help with menopause symptoms.

Best wishes as you continue to heal!

Hi Bellabob,

I just wanted to drop you a few quick lines of encouragement!

I had the same thing as you and luckily managed to persuade my surgeon to let me go on HRT after a small battle...it is bad enough having to deal with the emotional shock of cancer without losing our minds battling surgical menopause symptoms...the HRT really helps and I cannot imagine going through this without it (and without the encouragement of my lovely hystersysters on this board...).

I wish you all the luck in the world towards a speedy recovery...

Re: I was prescribed HRTafter endometiral cancer

Wow, my doctor says absolutely NO hormones at all for me. She says that endometrial cancer is caused by the hormones, so introducing them back raises your risk of reoccurance. I am on the fence as to whether I would rather go through this hell of hot flashes, night sweats, and fatigue OR risk cancer again.

Re: I was prescribed HRTafter endometiral cancer

Hi ABQrobin,

Interesting to hear what your doctor said-there are definitely pluses and minuses associated with taking HRT. I encountered some of that attitude from non-specialist drs but not from my oncology surgeon and menopause gynocologist. While I am obviously quite nervous about any kind of reoccurence, my cancer was caught very early and I am fortunately being monitored by some of the finest oncology doctors here in Canada. I am also very concerned about the side effects of NOT taking HRT-definite memory issues, depression, hot flash hell, bone loss, etc. We all have to make the decision that we consider best for us...unfortunately there is NO perfect answer. So far I am willing to take the risks because truthfully I do not think I could function without the HRT. Not sure what else to say other than good luck in whatever decision you make!

Best,

Re: I was prescribed HRTafter endometiral cancer

Well, I see my doctor again in 3 weeks, for my quarterly check/pap and I intend to bring up the issue with her again. I think quality of life is important, and since I am only 54 and married to a younger man, I want to continue to do all the things we did before my cancer. I am not ready to just sit in a rocking chair!

Re: I was prescribed HRTafter endometiral cancer

thank you, sisters :0 ) I never got the opportunity to research the pros and cons of HRT before I was put on them. Hormonally, I don't feel any different at all from before the operation (just under 4 weeks ago). I did bring the issue up with my surgeon at my 1 week post-op meeting, and he didn't believe there would be any problems. I'll now surf the HRT pages here for more info. sending you all love and prayers for your journeys xxx
