Requesting surgery report and pathology report

Just a question... is it normal to request these things from your doc, or do they automatically send them to you? I forgot to ask at my 2 week about copies. She just stated path looked fine, and left it at that. Still don't know exactly all they did in surgery as I only know what my husband and mom got told my the surgeons. Do you request it from the hospital? or the doctors office?

Thanks

Re: Requesting surgery report and pathology report

I just asked the scheduler since she was my first contact at the drs office and I like her. She called the nurse, someone printed it out and gave it to me. Medical records at your drs office is the best bet because if your path report got sent out beyond the hospital you were in, they send it back to the dr.'s office.

They may something like "it will be hard for you to read" or something, if they do tell them you want it for your personal medical records and besides your mom/bf/ whatever who is a doctor would like to see it....

I asked for a written list of what happened and was removed as soon as I was "settled" in my hospital room since my surgery didn't go according to plan. I then called a friend, read it to them and went to sleep. They looked everything up for me.

Re: Requesting surgery report and pathology report

as far as what my friend and relative got told after surgery what I got was:
another tumor appeared, and other stuff, things really didn't look good so they changed surgeries, took everything out en bloc, however the initial path reports showed no malignancy!

this was the 3rd surgery of the day that was like this, and the surgeon was considering buying a lottery ticket.

No they don't send the reports to you as a matter of course.

I requested mine from the hospital and received it 4 days later. Granted I didn't understand all of it but I understood the things I wanted to know.

Re: Requesting surgery report and pathology report

I called my doctor's office today and they are sending me the surgery and pathology reports to the house. I got my staples out yesterday and the doctor went over the pathology report w/me and my husband but I forgot to ask for it. When I called today the nurse said no problem and she would put them in the mail today.
