Unhappy - Age 35, had TAH/BSO, Moods like a yoyo... Age 35, had TAH/BSO, Moods like a yoyo...

Hi,

I'm 35 and had a TAH/BSO 5 1/2 weeks ago and started Premarin 3 weeks ago.

I'm wondering if my current situation (unstable moods) is hormonal/menopausal - basically I have no idea what I should be looking for if my HRT is working or not (except hot flushes). In fact I don't even know if being on HRT means I'm not menopausal, or that I am and it's being treated. Can anyone enlighten me please?

I am very up and down in my moods which isn't like me really, feel overwhelmed by things which normally I cope with ease. I've been angry and mean with my DH and then upset when my DD was upset after a hard day at her new school. Then when a post I had written in the post-op forum was changed by a moderator I burst into tears even though I could see why it was done. I feel a mess.

I feel so low and rubbish and just have no idea whether this is just being post op, having pain to cope with, or something to do with my hormones/HRT.

Can anyone help?

Re: Age 35, had TAH/BSO, Moods like a yoyo...

(((Ripple))), you're not alone in how you're feeling. Early recovery can be an emotional time and that's perfectly normal. My doctor told me that it would take a year to fully recover. I thought that was ridiculous but I had to admit that he wasn't far off target. It's a process to recover fully from surgery even without everything else you have going on in your life. Be gentle and patient with yourself.

What dose of Premarin did your doctor prescribe? At this point in your recovery you may need to have your dose increased. As your body depletes the hormones your ovaries made, you may have symptoms of low estrogen because you aren't getting enough from your hormone therapy.

It might help you to keep a journal of your symptoms. Share that with your doctor who can decide what, if any, hormone therapy changes are necessary.

Please know that we're here to support you through the rough times as well as the good. I hope you feel much better soon.
