Anyone else experience these symptoms?

Hi there! I was hoping not to have to use HRT, but the hot flashes have begun so I am slapping on that first patch before bed tonight. Its hard enough recovering from major surgery without the nonsense of dealing with hot flashes. In addition to the hot flashes, I have been having such a hard time falling asleep (normally I am a really super good sleeper), and my heart keeps randomly beating fast for a moment and then it will go back to normal pretty quickly (kind of like when you get nervous and your heart starts pounding). Has anyone else experienced these other symptoms? My OB/GYN says I should probably follow up with my primary care doc about the heart thing, but I have read in other places that it's part of menopause. I dunno...???

Re: Anyone else experience these symptoms?

Hi Skoochie!

Those symptoms can be hormone related but they are also common symptoms early in recovery with or without ovaries, on or off hormone therapy. It makes it hard to know what is or isn't due to lack of hormones but chances are good that the use of estrogen is going to help you feel better. Here's a link to hormone-related symptoms: Too Much/Too Little.

Following up with your primary care doctor isn't a bad idea. Hopefully all will check out fine.

Let us know how you are doing, okay?

Re: Anyone else experience these symptoms?

Hi Skoochie,

I have the same problem with the heart racing and such, when my estrogen gets too low. I've been experiencing with adjusting my dosage due to too much estrogen lately. When I adjusted the dose at too low a level, the heart racing, nervousness, hot flashes etc.etc.
kicks in and reminds me real quick to boost it up a bit.

Re: Anyone else experience these symptoms?

Thanks for responding ladies! I put the patch on last night and we'll see how it goes. I am hoping to get all of this under control before I have to go back to work! If the heart thing doesn't resolve itself fairly soon with the patch then I will follow up with my primary care doctor. XOXO
