Wink - DaVinci Hysterectomy DaVinci Hysterectomy

My final decision to have a hysterectomy came after years of trying everything under the sun to avoid having a hysterctomy.
I've always had very heavy periods, but they really just got out of control after an emergency C-section. So out of control that I winded up one day in the emergency room needing 4 bags of blood.
After going over my options, I decided to try an ablation. My thoughts were ... I'm too young for a hysterectomy... I've tried the pills and they make my periods worse..... all the normal thoughts and concerns. My ablation did not work, my bleeding got worse. Never stopped at all.
That Febuary, my doctor agrees to try the ablation again because I did not want a hysterectomy. My thoughts this time were different. My thoughts focused around my mother I just lost this December after complications from her hysterectomy. I was scared to death to have a hysterectomy.
My second ablation did not work for me. The pills and IUD's did not work for me. I have to say right here, my doctor is wonderful. He knew I really did not want the surgery, he knew why. He sat with me, he counciled me, he listened to me, he was slow with me. He demonstrated step by step with me what would happen and explained every bit of it. He did not push... he did not seem rushed... he even came up with some more alternatives we could have tried. I was blessed with a great doctor!!
We decided on the DaVinci because of the chance of the least amount of bleeding. My surgery was scheduled 3 weeks after my decision to have it. I did the bowel prep the night before, and went to the hospital 5:30 am the next morning. I don't even remember being wheeled into the operating room, whatever they gave me in the surgery prep waiting room really knocked me out! I woke up sometime (didn't know what day it was or what time), I wasn't in much pain (am assuming they gave me something). That was until I moved! It was very painfull to move! Sometime during the night, I got nauseated and winded up vomitting a couple times (that was very painfull). The next day consisted of removing my cath (ouch!) and getting me up to the potty and trying to pass the very hurtfull gas! Once all this was accomplished, I was allowed to go home that night.
Overall, my surgery was great, but I think a lot of that is thanks to the wonderful staff and doctor I was blessed with. I'm one week post op now, and I think I'm having a good recovery. The pain is subsiding and my bowels are returning. Thank goodness for Hyster Sisters though! I'd be completely lost without them! I lost the only person I know that has had a hysterectomy because of the hysterectomy so I have no one personally to turn to with the thousands of questions that I've had. That is until I stumbled upon the hystersister website while I was googling "pain while urinating after a hysterectomy". Thank you HysterSisters!! Ya'll have been my "go to" during a very tough time!!
