no bowel prep?
I am having a total laproscopic hysterectomy on Nov. 17. The assistant called me today to confirm and told me not to eat the night before but no bowel prep. I said are you sure? She said the dr. doesn't always order one. I said "even with laproscopic? " she said yes. Is that possible? My case should be pretty simple but still . I wonder if he is planning lapro? That is what I discussed with him. Any clues? Amila

Re: no bowel prep?
When I spoke to my doc last time she said the new guidelines indicate no bowel prep necessary is most cases. I'm having DaVinci Hysterectomy with Cystocele repair on 10/25. Looking forward to no prep but who knows - my pre-op is next week! All the best with your healing!

Re: no bowel prep?
I have had a diagnostic laparoscopy and a lap assisted hysterectomy, neither requiring a bowel prep!
When I had a laparoscopy and we KNEW the surgeon was going to be working on the bowels, then I had a prep!
Many best wishes to you for your upcoming procedure!

I had a LSH/BSO and didn't have to do a bowel prep, I also got to eat up until midnight the night before.

Re: no bowel prep?
I am having a TAH and have to drink magnesium citrate starting 4pm the day before surgery. Not looking forward to it. Dr. says it makes it easier by having the bowels empty.

Re: no bowel prep?
LSH no bowel prep here either! And everything went great too. I was surprised that I could eat right up until midnight before the procedure at 10:30 a.m, next morning. However, cannot eat or drink anything once you wake up the day of surgery. They let me take a sip of water to take an anxiety medication the morning of the surgery, only because I'm a worry wart.
