blood clot?

They say that you have a greater risk for getting a blood clot after surgery. How long after surgery is that still considered a risk? The calf of my leg has been a little tender at times and I'm not sure if it is something I should worry about or not cause I am 7 weeks post op now. It is not hot or red or swollen, just a little tender. Any advise??

Re: blood clot?

Any leg pain should be reported to your doctor. My only symptom of DVT was pain. I had no redness, no swelling, and it wasn't warm to the touch.

Re: blood clot?

Catherine, my leg feels like it is just a little tight and not really pain. Is that how yours started?

Re: blood clot?

I have the same thing 3 weeks post op and saw my surgeon today. He said to take a baby aspirin each day. My pain isn't constant, and it's not getting worse. Just sort of achy at times. I have a VERY conservative surgeon and I'm sure if he was worried he would have ordered tests or something. I was on Lovenox for 10 days post op. and a baby aspirin a day since stopping that.Hope you feel better soon!

Was it a constant pain, or did it hurt when you walked, sat or lye down?

Re: blood clot?

At first it was only when I walked. Then it became worse. I'd suggest to anyone who even suspects a clot that you go to the ER. Blood clots can be very dangerous, even fatal. It's better to go and find out it's nothing than to wait and see.

Re: blood clot?

How was it diagnosed? I'm so sorry you went through that!

Re: blood clot?

Blood clots in the leg can be diagnosed by an ultrasound. I was told several times when I called my doctor's office that it couldn't be a clot because I had none of the other symptoms that accompany a clot. My only symptom was pain.
