What is adenomyosis?

What is adenomyosis?? I am having extremely heavy bleeding and cramps and low back cramps and pressure. Gyno suggested the Mirena but I am afraid of the side effects of the hormones. I just think the hysterectomy is what I am leaning towards to get rid of this pain and excessive bleeding. See her tomorrow for a consult. Just extremely nervous.

Re: What is adenomyosis?

Adenomyosis is a condition where the endometrial lining of the uterus actually grows into the uterine wall causing pain and bleeding issues. We have Adenomyosis Resources in our Resource Database you can read through to learn more.

The Mirena Coil can be helpful as it puts progestin right into the endometrium where it is needed, rather than the progestin being in your whole system. Even those who have issues with the side effects fom other forums of hormones can do well with the Mirena Coil.

Have you had a second opinion about what might be best for you? Another doctor may have some additional ideas that might be helpful for you!

Re: What is adenomyosis?

Thanks for the info. I being sent to a gynecological oncologist for some issues by my regular gyno. Looks like it will be hysterectomy by the da vinci method. I am going to have to travel to a bigger city since I live in a mostly rural area. But I have read good things about the Dr the hospital and the da vinci procedure. Just want to get it over with and move on. Sick of the pain and should have bought stock in Always!!! LOL Thanks for all the info on this site. I can spend hours here reading and learning!!!
