Gained 40 lbs since surgery! What's going on?

Well, it's been a little more than two years since my TVH and I have steadily gained weight. I have kept my ovaries but am wondering if they may have stopped working and is this the cause of the weight gain. Will HRT help this problem? I actually have gained 40lbs since the surgery and now have a complete spare tire all the way around me. I have tried everything I know to try including walking 2 miles 3 days a week, and consuming less than 1000 calories a day for 8 weeks with no weight loss. Please help ! We had an event with family this weekend and pictures were taken. I could not believe how big I was in the pictures. That's not me ! Anybody have any ideas ? Thanks ladies !

Have you had your thyroid checked (TSH levels)? I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism within 10 months of my hysterectomy.

I was going to suggest having your hormone levels checked as well. It does sound as if your ovaries aren't functioning properly (even if they are still working some-what). My doctor checked my FSH or FHS level-I always mix that up- prior to putting me on HRT. The HRT was wonderful, stopped my hot flashes, night sweats, chocolate cravings (went waaaaaay beyond normal cravings), and sudden feelings of wanting to scratch someones eyes out.

The "spare tire" sounds like low estrogen. I also recommend a hormone check.

Red face - Gained 40 lbs since surgery! What's going on? Re: Gained 40 lbs since surgery! What's going on?

I feel your pain- hardly recognize that old lady looking back at me when I look in the mirror... BUT- I'm very, very grateful to be cancer free without radiation or chemo! Many Blessings!

I'm 60 and almost 3 years post TVH to remove uterine cancer. Since it's an estrogen fed cancer I can't take hormones. And, as you've said, the weight just keeps creeping up... ugh. And like others have said- around my middle. Never had that problem before....I always had a waist...

My new regime is no red meat at all, little chicken or full fat dairy, lots of water, pushing the vegetables hard everyday and much more exercise. Walk the dog, lift light weights, stretching, least something everyday.

So - I've lost 5 pounds in the last 6 months. It's not great but it's better than the gaining. I'm trying to think of it all in terms of making better food choices and doing things for my health...I still crave chocolate, though.

I'd love to hear from anybody in terms of ideas, support- whatever...

Grateful to be cancer free... Now if I can only fit into my old clothes again...
