Someone Please help!!!!!

Had a total hysterectomy on 9-2-2010. Was doing ok...but now I am very anxious, cry at the drop of a hat, and can't seem to handle anything. I feel so messed up. Also hot flashes from time to time. Due for my 6 week check up tomorrow. Not sure I can handle going back to work right now...work is very stressful....and I can't handle things anymore. Sitting here crying right now. I am not a wimp....I am a single mom of three and have always kept a handle on things. Now I fall apart at the least little thing. Only eating one meal a day....not depressed though....don't know what it is. Please someone help!

Re: Someone Please help!!!!!

Please let your DR about this. Sounds like your hormones are out of wack! Hang in there and rest as much as you can. I felt like that too and DR gave me Lexapro and Ambien so I could rest. She also gave me a hormone shot @ my 2week post op cause I felt sooo bad!! I am 11 weeks now and this is my 2nd week of back to work. I am exhausted when I get home. You are very early in INTIAL Recovery so don't feel bad. It will take a full year to get back to normal...sending you best wishes!!

Blessings,
Elizabeth

Re: Someone Please help!!!!!

I am sorry you are having a difficult time right now. Hormonal upheaval can be quite frustrating. I did okay initially, except for the hot flashes. Than within a few weeks the mood swings started and it was downhill from there.

What I learned is that the emotional aspect can be quite common during this time. At first, I panicked, than as I learned what was happening to me, I learned to not take things quite so personally, to let things go and to let my emotions flow. If I felt like crying I did, if I felt like screaming, I found a quiet room and let it go.

Your body is going thru many changes. It may take some time for your body to adjust and to recover from surgery. Your hormones are probably still fluctuating. Keeping a journal during this time can be very helpful.

You can read more about hormones and much more in the articles at www.hormonejungle.com

It can get better, you may need some patience during this time.

Re: Someone Please help!!!!!

So you didn't go back to work after 6 weeks? I thought I had to go back then. It realy is crazy. I was doing so good and still am physically, but this emotional roller coaster I am on is killing me. Thanks for the help. Right now I feel like there is no one to talk to, No one seems to understand at all.

Talk with your doctor about how you are feeling. If you do not feel you are ready to go back, even if it's emotionally, your doctor may okay writing you out for more time. There is no one set time period where everyone is ready. Some need more time than others. Do not feel bad if you feel you need more time. There is absolutely nothing wrong with needing more time.

Re: Someone Please help!!!!!

Sorry that you are having to go through this. It can be really hard to deal with the emotional and hormonal part of this. I know I felt like I was going nuts until my doc was able to get my hormones straightened out. It does get better but sometimes it takes time. You are definitely not alone.

More than you know While it's been quite a few years since my tah/bso I still remember those early weeks/months post op like it was yesterday. The tears, the screaming, than finally the calmness. I really am a much more calmer person now, but it certainly did not seem that it would ever happen in the beginning.

Re: Someone Please help!!!!!

Did you lose your ovaries, too?
If so it may take some time to sort out the hormones.
