three weeks post op and now facing HRT decision

I had a complete hysterectomy three weeks ago. I am 28 years old and surgery was due to severe endometriosis. I am now facing the daunting task of HRT. I have some very complex chronic health conditions which are making me very concerned about just taking anything. I have had some really terrible reactions to medications in the past. My accupuncturist has suggested that I go on bio-identicals. I would LOVE to hear from anyone who is on them and having success!

Thanks

(((gillybeans)))

I take it you had an oophorectomy along with your hysterectomy? And that is the reason you are looking at HRT?

One of the important things for you to remember is that with your endometriosis diagnosis your situation is going to be a bit tricky. Any endometriosis that was missed can respond to any estrogen replacement you use. Thus, some doctors who allow their patients with endometriosis to use ERT also recommend their patients also use some type of progesterone or progestin to try to hepp keep any endo at bay.

I would recommend you find a doctor who is knowledgeable regarding endometriosis before you start your HRT journey. Also, be sure to work with the doctors who manage your chronic health conditions. With endometriosis and chronic health concerns in the picture, your road to the right HRT may be quite different than that of the general population! HRT is not a one size fits all plan!

To learn more about hormones, click on the Hormones tab in the blue bar at the top of the screen. You can learn more about endometriosis by reading through some of our Endometriosis Resources. And feel free to post any endometriosis related questions in our Endometriosis Support forum.

I wish you well as you work through this the Hormone Jungle! Remember, it takes a lot of patients and perseverance, and it will be be a lot of trial and error!

three weeks post op and now facing HRT decision

Hi,
Yes I did under go an oophorectomy with my hysterectomy. And, yes, that is why I need to start HRT. My GYN who has been treating me for years now is very educated about endo and I am sure he will be as careful as we can be. Though, as you have said, with my chronic health issues nothing is "simple." I am seeing him on the 21st and also have the name of a female doc who specializes in HRT. I am going to hopefully be seeing her asap.

Thanks!!
