Whatcha Putting on Your Incision to Help Scarring?

I was using vitamin E oil, which I think helped, in addition to being blessed with an incision that just happened to heal really nicely. However, I kept applying it and kept noticing when the hair would try to grow back in around it from shaving, the skin would get really irritated and the hair would get ingrown. It would also itch horribly! Before when I used to shave, I never had issues like this. So I stopped the E oil for a few days, and, voila, the issues stopped. So I guess the oil/shaving/regrowth combo was not good.

Does anyone use anything for their scar (once it's permitted)? Do you think the stuff even works once the scar is healed (completely white, not really even raised)? Mine is like a thin red line (sometimes pink, depends on time of day) and not really raised. There's commercials for Mederma but that stuff is literally $30 for a tube smaller than my pinky finger and if it works that's fine, but I don't want to waste my money if it won't make much of a difference (and still break me out down there!).

Yes, we have Bio Oil here. I looked at the ingredients and they're comparable to the vitamin E oil blend I got. I just worry it'll still cause the irritation to my bikini area because it's so oily....did it work good on your scar?

It did work well and while its oil its absorbed very quickly into the skin..while nothing can get rid of the scar I think the oil kept the area lubricated so that the scar was able to stretch more gently to heal

PS if you already have a vit e oil I would try that a couple of times and see how you like it

Re: Whatcha Putting on Your Incision to Help Scarring?

I use raw unrefined shea butter. It's a little oily going on but absorbs pretty quickly. I can't really say whether it's helping the scar or not --- I'm at 10 weeks post op and my scar is still pink, flat on one side but raised somewhat on the other. My surgeon said it would always be raised on the one side. I'm hoping as time passes, the shea butter will at least minimize the scar as much as possible. It certainly keeps it beautifully moisturized!
