Question - Can someone explain bio identical? Can someone explain bio identical?

Can you explain bio identical to synthetic for me? I am on synthetic and I know I will be on them for years too because I am 41 now, but you say bio Id is the way to go for you since you will be on them for years , whats the difference? From what I understand one is from plants and the other from animals? And is one better for you than others?

This is the jist of it...

"Bioidentical hormones are manufactured in the lab to have the same molecular structure as the hormones made by your own body. By contrast, synthetic hormones are intentionally different. Drug companies can’t patent a bioidentical structure, so they invent synthetic hormones that are patentable (Premarin, Prempro, and Provera being the most widely used examples)."

The article in the Hormone Jungle explains it more. :O) I will never look down on anyone for using a synthetic hormone. It was the choice I made. Some books I read were Natural Hormone Balance and Screaming to Be Heard. These books were a tremendous help to me in the beginning when I didn't know anything about hormones! Hugs!

Re: Can someone explain bio identical?

ty, very helpful... now here is the next question, when using a product, how do you know if its bio id or other? Like evamist, does it say some place that is bio or animal urine?

Re: Can someone explain bio identical?

Hi!

From the site Resource Database, here's a link to a chart to use as an easy reference: Menopause Hormone Replacement Options.

Evamist is bio-identical--it's estradiol the same as Vivelle Dot, Climara, Estrace, etc.

I hope you find it helpful!
