Patch application site question

Hi, I am using Vivelle Dot and the instructions say to apply the patch to the abdomen. I was wondering if anybody knows if it is safe to apply it elsewhere, such as the hip? Thanks!

Re: Patch application site question

Hi Suzi:
I am also using Vivelle Dot. I have read here that you can place the patch on your hip and that the absorption rate is about 17 to 25 percent higher on your hip. However, my experience when I did that was that my patch "wrinkled up" on my hip so I don't think I was getting the same level of estrogen during that time. I got excruciating headaches and high anxiety/panic attacks. I went back to the abdomen. THat was just my experience. Hope that helps.

Re: Patch application site question

Thanks for sharing, Amy. I've only been on the patch since my surgery 3 weeks ago and so far I haven't had any menopausal symptoms. I would prefer to wear it on my hip, but I'm not ready to experiment yet. Thanks again!

Re: Patch application site question

Hi Suzi,

I also use the Viville dot.
I place mine on my butt. You also get a better absorbtion rate there.
I also find that placing it on your hip causes it lift up.

Lightbulb - Patch application site question Re: Patch application site question

Hi Painfreeoneday,

I am on .05 Vivelle. What I do, is when it's time to replace my patch, I leave the old one on. Since I wear my patch on my butt, I switch sides when applying the new patch.
Kinda like cheek to cheek.
This way I still get a little extra from the old, while wearing the new.
You just need to remember what cheek has the old and which one is the new when it's time to change.
I mark my calendar with my change days so I know what side has the old patch.
That might give you just the little extra you need.
Hope this helps.
