would a hysterectomy help my adenomyosis?

I was diagnosed with adeno 4 years ago with an MRI. I have dealt with pain in various degrees and with no particular pattern associated with my cycle. Bleeding is not a problem, just pain! Doc said it would all go away with menopause, so I've been trying to hang on until that happens. I'm almost 52 and still having periods. The last 2 periods were different. I began to have very severe pain that would not respond to my hydrocodone. This was the worst pain I have ever had. I mean I am doubled over, shaking, crying, and feeling like I am leaving this world. After several hours of this, it reduces some and then I am so sore. I can not take a step, cough, ride in a car, etc, without pain. This slowly goes away over several days.
I'm going to my doctor on Monday to tell him about this new level of pain. I don't want to have surgery, but I can not continue with this new level of pain every cycle. What should I do???? Would he need to do some testing to check out this pain before telling me I need a hysterectomy? It's been 4 years since the MRI. I am so frightened. I don't want surgery but I need to do something about this pain. Please advise. Thank you.

Re: would a hysterectomy help my adenomyosis?

Margaret, in my opinion ( remember I am not a doctor) I believe it will cure it. I had CIN1 cervical cancer, endometriosis, fibroids, cysts and ADENOMYOSIS. My doc said the only cure for it is a Hysterectomy. It is endo in the wall of the uterus muscle. I was in such severe pain, hydrocodone didnt help. All along I blamed it on the possible endometriosis but my doctor believes that my main source of pain was from the adenomyosis. I am 2 weeks and 3 days post op. I am still healing but can already "feel" a difference. I didn't realize how much pain I was in, how much pressure I had in my abdomen, that heavy pulling feeling is gone. I am 35 years old, when I was 30 I had severe heavy bleeding and cysts. I had endometrial ablation and a tubligation to help. It stopped my periods but not the pain or cysts or fibroids or endometriosis. As you know a Hysterectomy is major surgery..but I would do it all over again. I feel like I am going to be a better version of myself once I am healed. I will be thinking of you and keep you in my prayers. Please keep in touch!
