How much weight is too much to lose

Hi,

I have a question..I'm 14 days post-op and have been home 11 days. In the 11 days I have lost 17lbs. I cant seem to keep food in me. Everything keeps going through me. Im not taking any pain meds or anything to help go to the bathroom anymore so Im not sure what my body is doing. I'm starting to get a little worried since Im not a very big person to begin with and my family is thinking Im looking very scrawny. I've also noticed I'm feeling pretty tired and weak.

If anyone has had anything like this or advice I would really appreciate it.

I am thinking that you should notify your doctor about the amount of weight you have lost and how you are feeling. Let us know. I hope you are okay.

Re: How much weight is too much to lose

I would let the doctor know. I had my surgery July 16th, and I have lost lots of weight too. I feel great though, so I have not talked to the doctor. I believe I have lost 20 pounds or more.

I was told to call dr if I lost 3 lbs in one day or 5 or more lbs in one week! CALL DR.

Thank you for all the responses. My body has stopped losing and just maintaining. I am only taking miralax every three days or so to make sure I dont get constipated and seems to have worked.

Re: How much weight is too much to lose

I too lost a lot of weight and was told by my dr to drink protein shakes for the extra calories after dinner, and I will gain the weight back. However, I am still concerned as my pre-surgery weight was 132 (5'6"-height) and post surgery weight is 119...I was weighing 114. I went from a size 6 to a 2 and barely holding up size 4 pants.

If you are losing too much weight too quickly, I would definitely call your doctor to eliminate the possibility of something being wrong.
