Angry - U/S done today and no answers! Update--saw the doctor re: the results today U/S done today and no answers! Update--saw the doctor re: the results today

Hi sisters,
Well I went for my u/s today, and the girl tech said she saw nothing. When I was examined by my dr yesterday he said he felt a pelvic mass there. He said oh this is where you hurt most? Oh, well I feel a mass there now the next day the u/s tech said she see's nothing. In the mean time I'm lying there in ALOT of PAIN during the procedure. I'm confused as heck right now and hurting. I won't see my dr until Tuesday of next week. So what in the world does this mean?? Dr feels something that coincides with my pain I'm having, but the tech says she see's nothing and then says "have a wonderful afternoon"
Yeah, okay sure I will....the pain and all right? UGH! Help if anyone can shed some light on this I'd be very thankful right now. :-( I am at the end of my rope here.

Re: U/S done today and no answers!

Lisa,
The tech should not have told you anything. Take a deep breath and talk with your doctor. If you can't wait until Tuesday, give him a call in the morning.

Re: U/S done today and no answers!

The U/S techs are NOT supposed to say anything. I understand your frustration, going through the same thing. You know your body, and the scans don't always show everything. Not to mention, the techs are not trained on how to read them, just how to do them.
Hang in there!

Re: U/S done today and no answers!

(((Lisa)))

Keep in mind, endometriosis and adhesions rarely show up on an ultrasound image. If they do, they likely won't be noticed or recognized by a tech. My endo specialist does his own transvaginal ultrasounds because he has learned to detect some endometriosis and adhesions via ultrasound so depending on the skill of you doctor, he may still see something on the images that the tech missed.

As other mentioned, techs are trained to take the ultrasound pictures, not interpret them. And they are not suppose to share any findings because of their lack of training. Several years ago I had a tech give me a few scenarios for what she did find during an ultrasound. ALL of them were wrong! My doctor was very unhappy with her because she wasn't suppose to say anything and then by doing so proved why she wasn't suppose to say anything!

Take a deep breath and try not to waste a good panic. You could keep a symptom diary to share with your doctor on Tuesday and those details along with the ultrasound results could help him determine what is going on.

Re: U/S done today and no answers!

Thank you ladies for your replies. I am trying to calm down, and wait until I see my dr. I am going to try and get in to see him before Tuesday, but not sure I can with the holiday tomorrow. I'm going to go to bed early not feeling well at all tonight. Thanks again for your replies....I will keep you updated.

Re: U/S done today and no answers!

When trying to get in sooner, remember that it can take time before the ultrasound report and pictures are actually sent to your doctor. So make sure you ask if your doctor has the information before you change your appointment. One reason some doctors re-schedule us several days after an ultrasound is to be sure they have access to the test before they see us again.

Re: U/S done today and no answers!

Today I go to see my dr. about my u/s results. I am glad that today is here, but as weird as this sounds I'm kind of dreading it. I just don't want any bad's today. Please wish me luck that the u/s results do indeed show something, or that my dr. can figure something out for me. I will post later this afternoon when I get home from my appointment.

Unhappy - U/S done today and no answers! Update--saw the doctor re: the results today Update on u/s results....

I went to see my dr. today to get my u/s results, and I was concerned because the u/s tech. said she saw nothing. Well just as some of you ladies told me my dr. said that endo and adhesion's cannot be seen on most diagnostic tests. He says
I feel something there a mass of some kind and you're swollen inside. So he is sending me to get checked out by a colorectal surgeon. His thinking is that my endo is back and the endo and adhesion's are wrapping around my bowels. That happened a few years back to me. I have an app to see the colorectal surgeon Monday. My dr. says unfortunately he thinks I will need another surgery in the near future, and possibly he will put me back on lupron. I am glad he didn't just push me to the side because of the u/s results, but I hate having endo and going through all this again. I am going to take a hot bath and try and relax and watch a xmas movie.

Thanks for updating us!

While you wait for your upcoming appointment with the colorectal surgeon, I would recommend you keep a very detailed symptom diary. Also, make notes about any symptoms you have been having that have caused you to seek medical care. All of this information could help the new doctor determine what is going on before an invasive test or surgery needs done or before you determine if Lupron is right for you.

Have you ever consulted with an endometriosis specialist? If not, you really should consider doing so.

in there!
